Gameplay Design
These papers were written as part of assignments for the course Gameplay Design at the University of Gothenburg. This course aims at teaching how to design a game to encourage specific interactions between players or between players and the system. This includes understanding how the medium, interfaces and rules influence the game experience.
- Guidelines for designing for a gameplay style – In this paper a specific gameplay style is defined and analysed to afterwards provide guidelines for designing for this gameplay style.
- Game Analysis using Machinations and i* – This paper deals with the analysis and comparison of the games No Thanks! and Catan.
- What is a Game? – This paper discusses a personal definition of what a game is by comparing it to well known definitions and applying examples to it.
Introduction to Game Research
The course Introduction to Game Research at the University of Gothenburg provides an overview of games’ history and aims to introduce concepts and frameworks to discuss and analyse games with. The following papers were written as assignments for this course and contain the analysis and comparison of games from different media.
- Pervasive Games – This paper contains an analysis and comparison of Geocaching and Pokémon GO.
- Computer-based Games – This paper contains an analysis and comparison of the games Frogger and Super Mario Odyssey.
- Roleplaying Games – This paper contains an analysis and comparison of the roleplaying experience Fiasco and the LARP En För Alla.
- Board Games – This paper contains an analysis and comparison of the games Hive and 7 Wonders.
